End 1964 Yamaha started with the development of the YX05 (250 V4) to eventually replace the successful RD56 250 twin. The very first machine was an air-cooled version, after secret testing it was clear that the bike was too high and showing serious bad effects on the handling. Water-cooling would be the answer, making the engine smaller. In 1965 the first prototype was ready and shown and ridden for the first time at Monza. It is a privilege to have this newly built machine in YCRT.
