At the Dutch TT of 1973 saw the first appearance of the 0W16 (350cc) the bigger brother of the 0W17 (250cc), in the hands of Finish rider Teppi Länsivuori.  It proved to be an immediate threat to the established 4 strokes of MV and Benelli. Yamaha had contracted Giacomo Agostini as teammate to Teppi for the 1974 season beside the 500c class they were both also to compete in the 350 class on the 0W16, which was slightly improved over 1973 model.  Giacomo won the 350 title that same year!!   The 1975 model came with monoshock , instead of twin shock for the 1974 model, as well as several other modifications. New to the Team were Johnny Cecotto and once again test rider Hideo Kanaya. Cecotto won the 1975 350cc Worldchampionship. Two Worlchampionships 1974/75 and 1 second place in the 1973 in 2,5 years of racing with the 0W16 showed that it has been one of the best bikes ever made by Yamaha.
